9 extended non-techniques for Pocket Trumpet is an earnest and focussed
study of the anomalous resonances and textures of the pocket trumpet by
Pablo Picco. Each piece presents a particular approach to the horn by Pablo.
In all its sputters, clamoring and shutters the material is clearly
presented and deftly dealt with. One could simply see it as a basic
demonstration of unusual approaches to the pocket trumpet but there is
a distinctive personality behind the sounds of it all.


Pablo’s performance feels like a self portrait. You can hear him where
he is, the horn in his hand, and, as he says, “BLOWING IS DYING.” Each
piece is a moment to live and spend life and to hear Pablo really play.
It’s like watching a painter paint painterly, or a bee be, or rain raining.
In every technique a precious game and an almost scientific presentation
of “non-techniques” becomes, at the same time, a candid romp in the
poetry of space and time.
